DHS Proposes Citizenship Fee Increase

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has proposed increasing the filing fees for naturalization applications. The proposal would raise the cost of applying for U.S. citizenship and remove the reduced fee option for low-income households.

Under the proposed rule, the naturalization filing fee would be:

  • $1,330 for paper applications;
  • $1,280 for online filings.

The proposal would also eliminate the reduced naturalization fee currently available to low-income households.

The rule was issued by DHS and reported on 23 June 2026.
