I noticed that the July 2026 Visa Bulletin shows a “U” for India in the EB2 and EB5 Unreserved categories. What does that mean?

A “U” in the Visa Bulletin means a green card category is unavailable because all immigrant visa numbers for that fiscal year have been used. For India, the July 2026 Visa Bulletin shows “U” in the EB2 and EB5 Unreserved categories.

When a category is marked unavailable, USCIS cannot approve adjustment of status applications or issue immigrant visas in that category while the “U” remains in place.

New adjustment of status applications generally also cannot be filed once the category becomes unavailable.

The affected category is expected to reopen at the start of the new fiscal year on 1 October 2026, when a new supply of immigrant visa numbers becomes available.
