Argentina Unveils New Citizenship by Investment Program

Argentina will become the first South American country to offer a Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program, with applications opening in the fourth quarter of 2026. The initiative, announced by Economy Minister Luis Caputo in Paris on 2 October 2026, is being designed with the assistance of Argentina Mobility for Investment and Global Opportunity Limited (AMIGO), a consortium of five investment‑migration firms.

Program structure

The CBI scheme provides two investment pathways:

  • Treasury contribution – a non‑refundable payment of US $350,000 for a single applicant. Family contributions scale with size; a family of four is expected to pay US $500,000.
  • Sovereign bond investment – a purchase of a newly created Argentine government security valued at US $800,000.

Both options are intended to support Argentina’s fiscal and financial goals while attracting foreign capital.

Expected benefits for investors

  • Passport strength – an internationally recognised Argentine passport offering extensive visa‑free travel.
  • Regional mobility – preferential residence rights throughout much of South America, facilitating the ability to live, work, study, or start businesses across the continent.
  • Economic context – Argentina is a G20 economy with abundant natural resources, a highly educated population, and a globally recognised cultural profile, positioning the program as a competitive entry into the global investment‑migration market.

Application assessment

The Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs will conduct the primary review, coordinating with:

  • State Intelligence Secretariat
  • Financial Information Unit
  • Ministry of Security

Due diligence will examine identity, source of funds, assets, criminal and reputational records, immigration history, and jurisdictional risk. All funds must flow through the formal financial system. The Agency will forward a recommendation to the National Directorate of Migration, which holds final authority to approve or reject each case. International due‑diligence experts will also participate, following industry best‑practice procedures.

Implementation partners

AMIGO—comprising Arton Capital, Latitude Group, Passport Legacy, AIM Global, and Apex Capital Partners—has been advising the Argentine government on program design and will continue to support its launch.
