How the estimates are derived
IRCC publishes two types of processing‑time figures:
- Historical processing times – based on the period required to complete 80 % of applications that were finalized in the past.
- Forward‑looking processing times – calculated from the current application inventory and IRCC’s processing capacity.
Both are intended as general guidance and do not guarantee that an individual application will be completed within the indicated period. Actual timelines can vary due to case complexity, backlogs, additional document requests, or further review.
Service standards are internal performance targets that aim to finalize 80 % of applications under normal conditions. They differ from the published estimates and are reviewed less frequently; the current standards for temporary residence applications were last updated in 2018–2019.
IRCC updates temporary‑residence processing estimates weekly, with the next update expected on or around July 29, 2026.
