Saskatchewan’s provincial immigration program has opened its final September intake for the year, allocating 550 immigration spots to employers in four capped sectors: retail, trucking, accommodation, and food services.
Intake schedule and sector caps
| Sector | Intake opening | Spots available |
|---|---|---|
| Retail, trade & other services | 14 Sept, 9:30 a.m. | 175 |
| Trucking | 14 Sept, 9:30 a.m. | 150 |
| Accommodations | 14 Sept, 1:30 p.m. | 50 |
| Food services | 15 Sept, 1:30 p.m. | 175 |
Employers may submit an Employer Position Assessment (EPA) as soon as the window opens and continue until the overall 550‑application ceiling is reached. Applications submitted outside the designated windows are returned unprocessed.
Key EPA requirements
- Each EPA can list up to three positions for the capped sectors.
- The foreign worker must have six months or less remaining on their current work permit.
- Workers have 10 calendar days to confirm the EPA and 60 days after conditional approval to file their nomination application.
- Processing times for EPA assessments in 2026 have ranged from 3–4 weeks.
Overall SINP nomination landscape for 2026
- Total nomination allocation: 4,761.
- Nominations issued by 30 June: 2,628 (≈ 55 % of the annual quota).
The allocation is divided among three categories:
- Priority sectors (healthcare, agriculture, skilled trades, mining, manufacturing, energy, technology): 2,380 spots; 1,466 nominations issued to date.
- Capped sectors (accommodation & food services 15 %, retail trade & other services 5 %, trucking 5 %): 1,190 spots; 718 nominations issued to date.
- Other sectors: 1,191 spots; 444 nominations issued to date.
Additional considerations
- The September intake replaces a previously scheduled November 2, 2026 intake, which was cancelled.
- “Nomination spaces previously allocated for later intakes will be made available in September,” the province noted on 2 September.
- For non‑capped sectors, employers can submit EPAs at any time; they are not bound by the September windows.
- The SINP advises employers to prepare their EPA in advance, as most sector caps are filled within hours of opening.
Employers seeking to move a foreign worker onto the provincial immigration track should ensure the worker’s work permit expiry aligns with the six‑month limit, prepare the EPA before the intake opens, and be ready to submit promptly once the window begins.
