Estonia’s e‑Residency is a digital identification program, not a pathway to live in the country or obtain citizenship.
The government issues an e‑Residency ID card that lets holders:
- Register an Estonian company online
- Open a business bank account with Estonian institutions
- Sign documents digitally and access other e‑government services
These tools are intended to make Estonia a “pro‑business” environment for entrepreneurs worldwide.
What e‑Residency does not provide
- The right to reside in Estonia; a separate residence permit is required for that.
- Citizenship or a passport, so it does not grant any travel privileges.
- Guaranteed access to banking or other services; banks may still decline an application.
In short, e‑Residency is a purely digital ID for conducting business with Estonia, and it should not be confused with immigration or naturalisation benefits.
